Hi there. I'm currently suffering from a stomach bug and I've lost almost 5lbs over night. I know being sick is not a healthy way to lose weight. When I get over this, will I pile on the weight again because I've not been eating very much (or it hasn't stayed put)? Only just started again and don't want a big weight gain. Thank you
Hi there,
Sorry to hear you've been poorly and I do hope that you're feeling a bit better now.
Obviously losing 5lbs overnight isn't a normal weight loss, and a substantial amount of this will probably be fluid loss through dehydration, as well as some fat loss where your body has had to use stores for nutrition. It's important that you rehydrate as soon as you are able to, and start to replace some of the lost fluids as quickly as possible.
It is likely that some of the 5lbs you lost will go back on, because of the fluid imbalance, but you're not really putting weight back on 'per se', it's about getting your body back to normal.
Once you feel up to it, start with small and bland meals and snacks. Maybe don't worry about your food diary for a couple of days whilst you are recovering, but once you're back to normal get back on track and I'm sure you'll be fine. The important thing is getting well again so that you have all your strength to be able to go full throttle into your weight loss plan.
I hope this helps, and also hope that you're back to 100% very soon.
Best of luck with your weight loss.
Kind regards
Janet
