1) I'm failing this big time.
I have a sedentary job where I sit at a PC all day, have my lunch (only break of the day) whilst I work and go home to cook tea for my boys.
I get up at 6.30am to get my boys to school, then make my lunch and get to work. I have little energy at the end of the day and have no impetus to do more than my housework. I was hoping that when I had lost a little of the weight I'd feel more like exercising but I have gained!
When I started on here I lost initially, (from 10stone 7 to 10stone 2) but I am just gaining now, - so I don't weigh myself routinely anymore. I came in at 11stone 2 this morning.
I rarely go over 1,200 cals per day, (on this site's recommendation) and am always well over my fruit and veg for the day. I do walk briskly for 15 mins to work and 15 mins back which is up a hill that my car can only do in second gear but I don't add it as it just looks pathetic and makes me feel worse.
I'm close to giving up and letting my body do what it wants - turn into a blimp.
Please can you advise me? You are welcome to look at my diary if it helps at all.
Thank you so much for your query and I'm sorry you are feeling quite so disheartened, but looking at your food diary I can see why. It certainly seems that you you should be losing weight given the calories you eat and in the first instance I?d recommend that you get an appointment with your GP to see if there is any underlying problem - like an underactive thyroids for example - that could be causing you problems. This is unlikely, but if such a problem does exist you?ll be waging a battle you can?t really win until you get it sorted out. To ensure your concerns aren't dismissed. take a copy of your food diary with you which clearly shows how many calories you're having.
In the meantime a couple of things that might just help are to increase your intake of low fat dairy products and protein. Your diet is quite carb heavy which just might be making it harder for you to lose weight if you are insulin resistant (you might be if you carry a lot of weight around your middle). Also, when you are walking try to focus on really engaging you stomach and bottom muscles (you could also drop a line to our fitness expert Kelly who might have some suggestions about increasing your lean muscle tissue which helps increase your metabolic rate).
Do feel free to come back to me when you?ve been checked out medically, I?d be interested to know how you got on.
Best wishes
Angela
