Q.

Do Adios slimming pills work?

Hi, I have seen adverts of these pills, called 'Adios', on tv; and I can see they are sold over the counter in several places, where they are sometimes even beside the vitamins in the shelves. I wonder if they are helpful, or if they are actually just pure marketing product.
I don't need a prescription for dieting pills, because I don't have serious problems with my weight, and all I need is to change my food habits (which I am doing) and exercise (which I promise I will do); but because they seem to be safe and 'light', I wonder if they actually can be used as a help, or if they are not a good option.
I suffer from migraines, and I have seen there are a lot of dieting pills and patches that have ingredients that affects to the serotonin Because migraines are produced mainly for some problem in they way the brain produces and takes the serotonin back, I don't want to take anything that plays with my serotonin levels, because that could affect my migraines. Beside this, my prescription for migraines involves a component that re-creates the natural production and absorption of serotonin, and it is completely forbidden to take any other prescription that acts in the same way at the same time. So I don't want to take any risk, I prefer to have 1st more, than having more migraines or make them worse.
This is the reason I am asking if you know exactly what the ingredients of 'Adios' pills are for, and if you think that these pills can be used as an aid, or if you think they are useless. Thank you very much for the time you spend here answering questions, and for your help. Very much appreciated!

Our expert says...

Hi,

Adios is a herbal medicine which claims to speed up weight loss. The product contains herbal ingredients derived from Butternut (sometimes known as Juglans), Dandelion Root, Boldo and Fucus. My understanding is that these ingredients are believed to stimulate the thyroid gland and, therefore, increase metabolic rate, but I have to say that I am not aware of anyone having used this product and experienced an increase in weight loss.

I have noticed that other members often comment on these types of products and most say they have found them to be a waste of money. Maybe have a look in the forums to see what other people think?

The manufacturers of Adios suggest that anyone with a medical condition should consult their doctor or pharmacist before taking the product. I think this would be a sensible thing for you to do, as you do not know if these herbal tablets are compatible with the medication you are taking for your migraines.

As you say you don't have a serious weight problem, I think I would be tempted to avoid herbal diet pills and to stick with the tried and tested method of calorie controlled eating and exercise! Good luck.
